Chicken

cream cheese wonton chicken

I am using chicken breast for this recipe but you could use thighs as well. I will be cooking the chicken in a pressure cooker but you can cook your chicken, however, you prefer just be sure that it is tender enough to shred afterward.

Chicken Broth

Chicken broth is a great way to cook your chicken in a pressure cooker. Chicken broth adds flavor as the chicken cooks. You can use water instead if you don’t have any chicken broth but I would recommend using chicken broth if possible.

Spinach

spinach wonton mixture

I am using fresh spinach for this recipe but you could use frozen as well. If you are using frozen, be sure to thaw it and squeeze out any excess water before adding it to the cream cheese mixture.

Cream Cheese & Salsa

Cream cheese and salsa make a flavorful cream cheese mixture. You could use any type of cream cheese that you like. I like to use 1/3 less fat cream cheese because you still get a nice creaminess without adding extra calories. The salsa can be store-bought or homemade, whichever you prefer, I am using Kirkland salsa in this recipe because it’s my preferred store-bought salsa.

Wonton Wrappers

wontons

I am using wonton wrappers to make these cream cheese wontons. You can find them in the refrigerated section of your grocery store near the tofu. They are usually sold in packs of 50 so you will have plenty left over for future use.

Notes

  • Taste your filling before placing it in the wontons to see if they need additional seasoning or your wontons might not be as flavorful as you would like.
  • Add a little hot sauce on top before serving if you want a little kick.
  • These wontons are baked so they won’t be as crispy and flaky as if fried. If you wish to fry them, you can pinch them closed and fry them in oil.

FAQ

Can I make these cream cheese wontons ahead of time?

Yes! You can make the cream cheese mixture and assemble the wontons up to a day in advance. Store them in the fridge until you are ready to cook them. I recommend reheating them in an air frying if possible or in the oven at 350 for 5-8 minutes.

Can I Fry These Wontons Instead Of Baking Them?

Yes! Just heat up some oil in a large pan over medium heat. Be sure to pinch them closed so they don’t get saturated in oil. Fry the wontons for a few minutes until they are golden brown and crispy. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
