Everyone loves pizza, right? Sometimes it’s from a restaurant or the freezer section and sometimes you go all out and make your own homemade pizza dough. This homemade flatbread pizza is a delicious way to change up the normal pizza night and it’s easy to do. You can grab a store-bought flatbread or like regular pizza dough, you can make your own homemade flatbread. Then it’s simply a matter of building your pizza to your liking using your favorite pizza toppings such as fresh basil, mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes, shredded chicken, pepperoni, and the list goes on. With that said, let’s dive in and start with this flatbread pizza recipe.

Flatbread

flatbread

I am using store-bought flatbread because the goal is to make this flatbread pizza recipe easy. You can usually find flatbread in your local grocery store either on the bread aisle or in the bakery department. If you would rather not use storebought you can always find recipes online for making your flatbread at home.

Sauce

The simplest way to make flatbread pizza is to use store-bought pizza sauce. You can find a variety of different sauces at most grocery stores. Just because it’s storebought pizza sauce doesn’t mean it can’t be good and I will be showing you how you can easily spice up your pizza sauce with some garlic and seasonings. If you aren’t in a hurry you can make your pizza sauce. Some other popular pizza sauce ideas are garlic sauce, bbq sauce,  and alfredo sauce.

Fresh Mozzarella Cheese

fresh mozzarella

Fresh mozzarella cheese is the best type of cheese to use on a flatbread pizza. Its creamy and soft texture makes it perfect for flatbread pizzas! I suggest buying fresh mozzarella in a ball and then cutting it into pieces, but you can also shred it if you prefer to do so. Other great cheese options are asiago, parmesan, and regular shredded mozzarella cheese.

Toppings

The sky is the limit when it comes to flatbread pizza toppings. I am doing a veggie-style pizza, using fresh ball mozzarella, baby spinach, roasted red peppers, and feta cheese. You can substitute or add any other veggies you would like but this combination is quick, easy, and delicious. Other popular topping ideas are cherry tomatoes, basil, arugula, Italian sausage, sliced mushrooms, sliced pepperoni, Canadian bacon, black olives, and green onions.

FAQ

What type of flatbread should I use?

I prefer to use store-bought flatbread to keep things simple, but you can also make your flatbread at home if you have the time. If you can’t find a flatbread in your local store, you can also use naan bread. Naan bread will be thicker and have a slightly different texture but still be delicious.

Can I substitute store-bought pizza sauce for homemade sauce?

Yes! Store-bought pizza sauce is perfectly fine and saves you time. You can also easily add garlic and seasonings to spice up the flavor of your flatbread pizza. However, if you prefer to make your own sauce that’s never a bad thing.

What other toppings can I add to my flatbread pizza?

The options are limitless when it comes to flatbread pizza toppings, so feel free to get creative with your flavors. Some popular toppings include mushrooms, red onion, olives, and artichoke hearts.

Can I Meal Prep This Flatbread Pizza Recipe?

Absolutely! This flatbread pizza recipe is perfect for meal prepping. Simply make the flatbread pizza ahead of time and store it in an airtight container or baggie. Then, heat and serve when you’re ready to eat.

Is Flat Bread Healthier?

Yes, it can be because most flatbread often contains fewer calories than traditional pizza crust and is typically lower in carbohydrates. However, you still need to be careful of what toppings you are adding to it if you are trying to keep the calories down.

Why Is My Flatbread Soggy?

This is usually a result of too much sauce or not enough baking time. Make sure to spread the sauce evenly and bake your flatbread pizza for the recommended amount of time. This can also occur if you are using ingredients with excessive moisture and not patting them dry beforehand. This will cause the liquid to sit on the crust and make it soggy.
